As a massive geek/nerd, whenever I hear of a new business opening up somewhat local to me that caters to my particular tastes, I have to check them out. So when I heard that someone had opened a “Geek Retreat” store in Burton-on-Trent I planned for myself and my son to go and check it out.

The decor was very much inline with other Geek Retreat cafes (I’ve been to Birmingham, Nottingham and York’s GRs) in that the yellow and purple branding was everywhere.

We then took a look at the menus and ordered some drinks and snacks – we opted for two of the luxury milkshakes, which were fairly priced at around a fiver a piece and were absolutely delicious as well as some of the mozzarella sticks that they had on sale.

The food was great and the staff were incredibly friendly – the owner, Jermaine, informed my 9 year old son about the gaming evenings that they hold as well as the fact that they had a Nintendo Switch and some sofas set up if either of us fancied a game (which we declined for lack of time)

Final Thought and Rating: Overall we had a great experience, enjoyed the food and drinks and the staff were pleasant and friendly. We’re more than happy to head there again to try the rest of the milkshakes. I’d give them a solid 10/10
